How is TRU Celtic made?
Our TRU Celtic blend is carefully handmade in Sydney, Australia. During our preparation process, we use non metallic implements so as not to compromise the ionised properties of the Celtic sea salt.
We source only the finest, natural local and imported ingredients for our blend.
The Celtic sea salt used in our TRU Celtic blend is naturally harvested by hand in Brittany, France. We source it from an importer in northern NSW, who in turn ensures that the salt holds approval by ‘Nature et Progres’ in Europe. Part of this approval requires regular testing for mineral balance and heavy metal pollutants to ensure its purity.
The extraction method for Celtic sea salt today follows a 2000-year-old Celtic traditional technique. Seawater at high tide is trapped in estuaries until it evaporates to a brine, in which it is guided by the salt farmer through a series of clay-lined beds until by the end it is crystallising.
The farmer uses wooden rakes to pull the sunken crystals imparted with the grey colour from the bed of the harvesting ponds. With little more done than natural draining, the yield is a moist, natural crystal salt with the brine, or “bitterns” still intact. As a result of the extraction process, this salt is known for its higher than usual moisture content and light grey colour.
Our TRU Celtic blend is made with 96% pure Celtic sea salt, 2% organic ginger and 2% organic ceylon cinnamon. It comes in a sealed paper envelope with internal plastic lining to prevent the moisture from the salt from being absorbed into the paper envelope.
Each pack comes with a single serve spoon, currently made from plastic (soon to be wooden as part of our plastic free initiative).
Using any metal objects while handling the blend will dionise the properties in the salt so we are careful, not only throughout our preparation process, to maintain to purity of the blend, but also to provide you with a non metal serving option as well.
